We’ve known for a while now that Dark Souls 3 will receive two DLC expansions, the first of which will be out this fall. There was some indication of a third DLC expansion, but this seems to have been the result of a mistranslation, and there are only two.

Aside from that initial information, nothing has been revealed about the upcoming DLC, although there are rumors about what it might contain.

While DLC can be a controversial issue among players, the Dark Souls series has typically handled it well. The original Dark Souls was expanded with Artorias of the Abyss, which received excellent reviews from both players and critics. Dark Souls 2 received a trilogy of DLC expansions: Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old Iron King, and Crown of the Ivory King. Players generally enjoyed these episodes, as well, with some feeling they captured the feeling of Dark Souls better than Dark Souls 2 itself did.

And although Bloodborne is not exactly a Souls game, the two share enough similarities to take its DLC into account. Its expansion, The Old Hunters, was also well-received.

With these as its predecessors, Dark Souls 3 will likely have worthwhile and satisfying downloadable content. What sorts of things do you hope to see in the upcoming Dark Souls 3 DLC?

Some players would like to see areas from the previous two games in the series revisited, as a final homage to the series, since Dark Souls 3 concludes the Dark Souls saga as we know it. The main game itself is already filled with nods and homages to Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2.

However, for that very reason, other players would like to see the DLC tackle something new. Expanded lore, traveling back to an earlier time in the world’s history, or even a new setting such as a water-based area or a desert.

What sort of area do you want to visit in the Dark Souls 3 DLC? Is there lore you want to learn more about, or are you mainly interested in the gameplay?

Since Dark Souls 3’s first piece of DLC is due out in the fall, chances are good we’ll learn more about it at E3.
