Sharing is caring!

If you love using WhatsApp to communicate with friends and family, you probably already know the ins and outs of using this popular app. But did you know that you can now use this messaging service on your desktop computer? That’s right! WhatsApp is now available on PC and Mac, allowing you to keep on chatting with your loved ones even when you’re not holding your smartphone.

This is definitely good news to WhatsApp fans who are getting tired of staring down at their phones and tapping on a small screen. Through the desktop app, they can now chat with their family and friends on a bigger screen and use a real keyboard to type their messages. The new app is also helpful for users who aren’t allowed to use their smartphones at work but would like to keep on chatting with their loved ones on their computers.

WhatsApp Web Browser App vs Desktop App

“But what’s the difference between this new desktop app and the web browser version of WhatsApp?” you might ask. Well, on some level, they’re somehow similar. The new desktop app, for example, requires you to connect your mobile phone with your computer before you can use it — which is exactly what you need to do with the browser version.

The biggest difference between these two products, though, is that the new WhatsApp desktop app isn’t browser-dependent. This means that it can stand on its own regardless of whether your browser is functioning well or not. You’ll also prevent your browser from malfunctioning since it will no longer need to run WhatsApp’s web-based version, which is resource-intensive and can cause browsers to freeze and crash.

Downloading and Using the Desktop App

Before you download WhatsApp’s desktop app, you first have to make sure that your computer is capable of running it. The app is compatible only with Mac OS X 10.9 and higher and Windows 8 and higher (for both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions). Remember that you can’t use the desktop app if you don’t have WhatsApp in your phone, so download the mobile app and create your account first. Once you’re ready, you can get the desktop app from https://www.whatsapp.com/download/.

What do you think about the WhatsApp desktop app? Have you downloaded it and used it on your PC? If not, are you planning to get it, or will you be sticking with the mobile version? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below!
