As usual, the developers of WhatsApp are working on this application everyday and they’re releasing new updates with bug fixes and, from time to time, new features. Today we will talk about a new WhatsApp version that has just been released for Android devices, which brings, besides usual bug fixes, an improved spam protection.
The developers have added new resources that allow you to block messages that you consider spam. The new WhatsApp 2.16.90 APK (installation) file has been increased by 69KB and it has over 370 modified files that are related to conversations and voice calls. At the same time, 3 icons have been removed and have added a new icon named “ic_spam_add.png”, which is identical to the icon to add contacts.
As we’ve told you above, the developers have added improvements to the spam feature and this is the reason why there are new files such as “conversation_block_add_footer.xml” and “possible_spam_background.xml”.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any news regarding the Video Calling feature that’s expected to be released for this application soon.
WhatsApp 2.16.90: How To Install On Your Android Device
The WhatsApp 2.16.90 is currently in BETA phase, but you can now install it directly from the Google Play Store if you head to this page and tap on the “BECOME A TESTER” button. Once you’ve become a WhatsApp BETA tester, open the Google Play Store on your Android device, search for WhatsApp 2.16.90 and install it on your Android device.
However, there are users who still prefer to manually install the latest WhatsApp BETA version on their Android devices. To do this they will need to enable the “Unknown Sources” option from their device’s Settings->Applications or Settings->Security.
This feature will allow them to install APK (installation) files that have been downloaded from a third party source.
Once this feature is enabled they will need to go to whatsapp.com/android and download the WhatsApp 2.16.90 APK file to their mobile device. Finally, they will use a file manager application to get to the location where they have saved the APK file and tap on it to start installing the latest WhatsApp BETA version on their Android smartphone.
