One of the reasons that Sony is struggling to sell its Xperia mobile phones is that they are slow in upgrading the operating systems. It usually takes them longer to update the OS, compared with other phone manufacturers that stay on top of whatever new updates Google releases.

With the Android Marshmallow, Sony Xperia models also got it a little later. The trend, however, is that new models get the update first and the old ones last. Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3+ have been upgraded. Other models that will get Android 6.0 as listed on Sony’s website are Xperia™ Z5, Xperia™ Z5 Dual, Xperia™ Z5 Compact, Xperia™ Z5 Premium, Xperia™ Z5 Premium Dual, Xperia™ Z4 Tablet, Xperia™ Z3+, Xperia™ Z3+ Dual, Xperia™ Z3, Xperia™ Z3 Dual, Xperia™ Z3 Compact, Xperia™ Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia™ Z2, Xperia™ Z2 Tablet, Xperia™ M5, Xperia™ M5 Dual, Xperia™ C5 Ultra, Xperia™ C5 Ultra Dual, Xperia™ M4 Aqua, Xperia™ M4 Aqua Dual, Xperia™ C4 and Xperia™ C4 Dual.

The update also reached other Sony devices, such as the Xperia Z4 tablet.

When these updates will be available to the models listed above depends on the operator, region or country and market. This means they will be rolled out at different times. There is also a possibility that specific markets and some network operators may opt out of the updates for certain models. So, even when Sony wants to deliver updates in a timely manner, there are certain factors that keep them from doing so.

What can you expect from Android 6.0 on Sony Xperia?

Better control on apps permission

With the new operating system, you have the power to revoke or grant permission for each of the apps downloaded on your phone. With enhanced privacy, you have better control of data permissions and app visibility.

Doze and App Standby

Both of these features help extend battery life. You can leave applications open without worrying about them draining battery juice. When your phone or mobile device is not in use, it will automatically get a break, effectively making your battery last longer.

Direct sharing

Want to share content with your friends directly? This feature will make it happen. Your most used apps and most recent contacts would stay on top as well.

Floating toolbar

Editing, copying and pasting text has been simplified by the floating toolbar. This ensures increased productivity when using Sony Xperia with Marshmallow.

To sum it up, the new Android operating system in Sony’s Xperia models guarantees the best mobile experience.
