The “Take Tokyo Tower” Persona 5 live stream, which we previously discussed, is now over. It brought with it several exciting pieces of news, including the Persona 5 release date for Japan. Persona 5 will be available on September 15 in Japan.

A fantastic new trailer accompanied the news, as well. Let’s check it out.

Thanks to Gematsu, we also have the full details of the Persona 5 20th Anniversary Edition. This special edition includes:

  • Persona 5
  • A hardcover Persona 5 art book
  • A 5-disc Persona 20th Anniversary album, containing music from all five Persona games
  • Three special collaboration DLC sets
  • A custom theme from Shigenori Soejima
  • A Persona 5 “treasure box”

There is no word on either a localized release date or whether regions outside of Japan will receive the Anniversary Edition, but now we can put forth a good guess as to when we’ll learn this information: E3. Persona 5 has been confirmed to have an E3 presence, so it’s a good bet we’ll see both additional gameplay and learn more about the Western release.

Atlus announced three other things as well. First, a 30-minute Persona 5 anime special will also air in September. While feedback to past Persona anime adaptations has been mixed, this could still be pretty interesting. Second, there is going to be a Persona orchestra concert on August 13, the first time the series has ever had such an event. And third, they’ll be holding a Persona 20th Anniversary Festival in December.

After a long time without any Persona 5 news, today’s Persona 5 live stream turned out to be worthwhile and exciting. The September 15 release date is also interesting because it’s so close to the release date of Final Fantasy XV, which will come out worldwide on September 30. Both are highly-anticipated JRPGs, which could put them in direct competition with one another, so we’ll see if either impacts the sales of the other.

Persona 5 still doesn’t have a Western release date, but that news will likely come at E3. It is supposed to come out this year, so winter 2016 should be the latest we’ll see it. In the meantime, watch the exciting new Persona 5 trailer and let us know in the comments what you’re most excited about when it comes to Persona 5.
