A new WhatsApp version has been released for Nokia Asha and devices that run on Symbian 40 such as Nokia C3. The new WhatsApp 2.16.6 update comes with a new security option that can be found in the application’s Settings > Account > Security.

The new security option will allow you to enable or disable security notifications that will warn you if you’ve changed the security code of a contact. The WhatsApp 2.16.6 .jar (installation) file comes with many changes. First of all, the file has been increased with only 1KB, without new added or deleted files, but 463 files have been modified, from a total of 2039 files. With other words, the developers have worked pretty much on optimizing this version of WhatsApp.

Unfortunately, the Voice Calling feature has not made its way to this WhatsApp version yet and we’re not sure if it will ever be released for Nokia Asha devices. We also remind you that the developers have already announced that they will stop supporting Symbian S40 devices before the end of 2016.

WhatsApp 2.16.6: What’s new?

– A new security option;
– Usual bug fixes and improvements.

The .sis (installation) file of the WhatsApp 2.16.6 can now be downloaded directly from the store that your device comes with. We also remind you that the annual fee has been removed, which means that, from now on, the WhatsApp application is completely free.

If you want to install the latest WhatsApp BETA version (2.16.9), you will need to open the browser on your Nokia Asha device and head to whatsapp.com/nokia webpage. Once you’ve downloaded the file to your Nokia Asha device, tap on it to start the installation process of the latest WhatsApp BETA version.

Another reminder is actually bad news for those who haven’t found out that by the end of this year, WhatsApp will stop supporting this application for Nokia Asha.
