Fans of open world fantasy video game The Elder Scrolls (TES) will be disappointed to know that the sixth installment of the game may not be unveiled during E3 2016.

There have been rumors going around that publisher Bethesda Softworks will release TES 6 during E3, which will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting June 14. Most of these rumors were sparked by an image that Bethesda had tweeted in February to confirm their attendance to E3. The image contained several characters from the video games that the company had developed and produced, and one of the characters featured was from The Elder Scrolls series. This prompted fans to believe that Bethesda will release the sixth installment of TES during the event.

Unfortunately, this won’t seem to be the case. For one thing, Bethesda Softworks Vice President Pete Hines has stated that the company is focusing on Fallout 4, another popular video game. “We do smaller stuff, we don’t publish to scale, we try to publish to quality. Make sure everything we do is noteworthy,” Hines pointed out in an interview with The Telegraph. This can be taken to mean that Bethesda takes things one step at a time to come up with excellent products (instead of spreading out their resources and producing mediocre games) and that Fallout 4 is their priority at the moment.

Another clue that TES won’t be released during E3: Bethesda is releasing Dark Brotherhood, a DLC pack for “The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited”. The new DLC will be released on May 31 for the PC and Mac versions and on June 14 for the PS4 and Xbox One versions. The fact that Dark Brotherhood will be released just a few days before E3 is a huge giveaway that The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be unveiled during the event. After all, as anyone who’s familiar with video games will attest, it’s highly unlikely that the company will release a new DLC and a new game at almost the same time.

Fans shouldn’t worry, though, since Pete Hines has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is in the works. The only thing anyone can do now is to wait until Bethesda announces the release date for this long-awaited game (although there are rumors that it would be unveiled in 2017 or in 2019). In the meantime, TES fans can console themselves by downloading the new DLC pack, which lets them join a guild of assassins called the Dark Brotherhood, explore new areas like Anvil and Kvatch, and go on exciting quests.
