If you own a Sony Xperia device, you probably already know that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has already been rolled out to certain models. Today, the rollout continues with updates being released for additional Xperia gadgets.
One of these is the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Many Sony fans have assumed that the tablet isn’t included in the list of devices that would receive the update, but the Japanese multinational tech company surprised everyone by releasing the Marshmallow update (with build number 23.5.A.0.570) for the gadget on Tuesday, April 26. The update will be available for the two variants of the tablet: the LTE version (SGP621, SGP641) and the Wi-Fi version (SGP611, SGP612).
Sony Xperia Z4
The Android 6.0 update has also been released for the Sony Xperia Z4 (402so) in Japan. Japanese telecommunications company Softbank has rolled out the update (with build number 32.1.D.0.284) today, April 27, enabling the smartphone to have several new features such as the STAMINA mode. The STAMINA mode prevents apps from doing CPU-intensive apps and connecting to the internet when the phone’s screen has been turned off, saving more power and extending the phone’s battery life.
The STAMINA mode has not been included in Xperia Android 6.0 update since its function is similar to the new Marshmallow feature Doze. Many Sony fans missed STAMINA, but it seems that they’ll get the best of both worlds since Xperia Marshmallow updates now include the well-loved power-saving mode.
Aside from Softbank, Japanese carrier NTT docomo has also included the STAMINA mode in its Sony Android 6.0 updates, causing many tech experts to think that this mode might be included in future international updates. It’s not yet clear how the STAMINA mode will compare with the Doze mode and how the two will interact with each other, though we’ll surely get feedback from Sony users who have tried using an Xperia phone with both power-saving features installed.
Other Z2 and Z3 Variants
As mentioned above, the Marshmallow update has already been rolled out to certain Xperia gadgets, most of which were part of the Z2 and Z3 series. Earlier in April, the Xperia Z2 D6503, Xperia Z3 D6603, and Xperia Z3 Compact received the Android 6.0.1 update (with build number 23.5.A.0.570). Last week, on April 18, the update was extended to other variants, such as the Xperia Z2 D6502, Xperia Z3 D6646 and D6653, Xperia Z3 Dual D6633, and Xperia Z2 Tablet SGP511, SGP512, and SGP521.
