If you love playing The Elder Scrolls (TES), you’ve probably heard rumors that the sixth game in the franchise will be released this year. Unfortunately, several reports have squashed these rumors, suggesting that The Elder Scrolls 6 most likely won’t be launched in 2016.

Fans of The Elder Scrolls, who are understandably itching for a new game to be released, gave a collective yell of delight when rumors suggested that The Elder Scrolls 6 would be released this year. These rumors were sparked by a social media post from TES developer Bethesda, which tweeted a photo that promoted its showcase for Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016. The photo contained a group of characters from the different games that Bethesda has developed, and one of these characters belonged to The Elder Scrolls franchise. Because of this, fans began to assume that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be revealed during E3.

Unfortunately, there are signs that this may not actually be the case. Crossmap.com points out that it’s highly unlikely that TES 6 would be released this year and that reports suggest a 2019 release date for the game.

This is definitely disappointing to The Elder Scrolls fans, but they can console themselves with the fact that TES 6 will surely happen. Bethesda Softworks vice president Pete Hines said in a Gamescom 2015 interview that the company is 100 percent focused on Fallout 4, which means that The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be released anytime soon. However, in an interview with the Telegraph, Hines confirmed that TES 6 will happen, although they’re not rushing to develop it. This stems from the fact that Bethesda tries to “publish quality” and ensures that everything they do is “noteworthy”.

During the Telegraph interview, Hines also gave a hint that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be based in the fictional land of Skyrim and will therefore be called “Skyrim 2”. This is a huge revelation for fans, many of whom were wondering if TES would be based on the province of Morrowind or on the planes of Oblivion.

Still, TES fans should take these reports with a grain of salt; until The Elder Scrolls 6 would be released, no one (except for the folks at Bethesda) exactly knows what the game would contain.
