Sharing is caring!

Since Grand Theft Auto 5 has been out for quite some time now, many fans are already eagerly looking forward to the next game in the series. But aside from rumors, we’ve heard nothing at all about GTA 6. Speculation is fine, but it doesn’t help you much when you wish you were playing it. And that is likely a long ways off.

In the meantime, here are five games that might help you pass the time as you’re waiting for GTA 6. Of course, other Grand Theft Auto games are an obvious choice, so let’s take a look at games that aren’t GTA… but might feel similar in some ways.

1. Red Dead Redemption

If you enjoy Rockstar’s open world games, why not try another? Red Dead Redemption is a third-person open world game with action-packed gunfights, a “Dead Eye” targeting system that slows down time, a wanted system similar to that used in GTA, and more.

Is it Wild West GTA? Not quite, but there are enough comparisons to draw to make it a good choice if you haven’t already played it.

2. Just Cause 3

Just Cause is another open world third-person action-adventure series, and the most recent entry came out in December, Just Cause 3. It has a large world to explore, numerous weapons and vehicles, and improved traversal tools like a grappling hook and wingsuit.

It’s also filled with destructible environments. If you want a game where you can cause chaos and destruction, Just Cause 3 gives you plenty of creative ways to do so.

3. Saints Row IV

Once upon a time, Saints Row was a serious, realistic open world series that had much in common with GTA. Then the series changed directions to focus on over-the-top action rather than seriousness.

In Saints Row IV, your character becomes the president of the United States and gains superpowers. Then you have to fight off an alien invasion. We weren’t joking when we said it was over-the-top.

Superpowers, humor, and wild action can all be found here. And if you don’t like alien invasions, you can try the standalone expansion and visit Hell instead. Yes, Saints Row: Gat out of Hell is set in Hell.

2. Sleeping Dogs

Sleeping Dogs is set in an open world Hong Kong where you play as an undercover officer named Wei Shen. It includes RPG mechanics and has a melee combat system similar to the Batman: Arkham games.

It’s different from GTA in many ways, but it’s still another good alternative.

1. Mafia III

The Mafia series, as you might guess, focuses on the Mafia. Rise through the ranks of organized crime in an open world with a historical setting.

The newest game in the series, Mafia III, will be set in 1968 and star a young man who starts his own criminal organization after Italian mobsters try to kill him. It isn’t actually out yet, but it’s set for release sometime this year.

These are our five picks for games you can play while waiting for GTA 6. Have any more suggestions? List them all in the comments!
