Clash Royale is still a pretty new game, released by Supercell on March 2, 2016. This online multiplayer strategy game has proven incredibly popular, with great reviews despite some criticisms of its use of in-app purchases. Many people find the gameplay appealing, and it has become a new rising star for Supercell.

Well, the game might be new, but its popularity has enabled it to try great things already. It’s time for a big day in Clash Royale’s history: its first ever official tournament.

Players have already held their own unofficial tournaments, both in small groups among friends and as larger events coordinated through the Internet. Now it’s Supercell’s turn. It’s still somewhat experimental, to test various tournament ideas and see what they’ll want to do for potential future tournaments, but the first official Clash Royale tournament will be held tomorrow in Finland’s capital, Helsinki.

As of yesterday, about 200 people were planning to attend the tournament, which is an open event anyone can compete in. However, you need to be physically present in Helsinki to participate. It isn’t an online event. The tournament will begin tomorrow, April 16, at 10 AM Pacific Time / 1 PM Eastern Time.

For those of you interested in watching a Clash Royale tournament, but who aren’t traveling to Finland this weekend to see it in person, the tournament will be live streamed through both Twitch and Youtube. You can access the streams, and get more information about them, from this official page.

Tournaments are big in multiplayer gaming, even for mobile games. It will be interesting to see how the first tournament for Clash Royale will turn out, and how it will affect the future. It should provide a good look at how viable Clash Royale is for competitive events. If it’s successful, there will undoubtedly be more Clash Royale tournaments held around the world. With the popularity of fan-run tournaments, perhaps Supercell will even enable and run online tournaments, so people can participate without having to travel.

Are you going to watch tomorrow’s tournament? If there was a Clash Royale tournament near where you live, would you attend and compete?
