The WhatsApp application is one of the most used mobile applications out there and at the beginning of this year, the total number of active users has passed 1 billion. Today we’re going to talk about a new WhatsApp version that has been released for iPhones.

The latest WhatsApp version for iPhone is 2.16.2 and it comes with bug fixes and stability improvements. We remind you that the previous WhatsApp version that has been released for iPhone has brought end-to-end encryption to the application. The end-to-end encryption is a new security feature, which will make sure that your messages won’t be read by anyone else, as you will give an encryption key to the recipient, so only him/her will be able to open the message.

However, there are reports which say that WhatsApp might be banned in India because of the end-to-end encryption, as this feature is using 256-bit encryption and in India, online services are allowed to use up to 40-bit encryption.

With other words, WhatsApp will need to ask the Indian government to permit its application to use 256-bit encryption in India or else it will most likely be banned in this country. Currently, we don’t have any news regarding this issue, but we’re pretty sure that the Indian government will act sometime in the near future.

We remind you that there is still no news regarding the rumored Video Calling feature, which is expected to be released for WhatsApp application on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile OS.
