The developers of WhatsApp just brought another beta update of this application for Android. WhatsApp 2.16.10 weighs 27.6 MB and it contains only bug fixes and performance improvements, in addition to the recently introduced features. This is the latest beta update and can be downloaded from the Google Play store, but you must sign up for the WhatsApp Beta program. The advantage of downloading updates from the official Android store is that you won’t need to enable the Unknown Source option and you’ll have access to everything comes new to WhatsApp, before other users.
If you’re using Microsoft Office on your PC, then you’ve probably used bolded, italic or single-line strikethrough formatting in Word. Well, WhatsApp’s developers have thought about bringing these formatting options to this application and in order to make a word bolded, you’ll add an asterisk before and after the text (for example, *hello*), to make the word italic, add an underscore before and after the text (for example, _hello_) and to apply strikethrough, just add a tilde before and after the text (for example, ~hello~).
This type of effect will be applied to your message the moment you’ll send it to your contact. Also, you can use these contacts on the Web client as well, but the text will appear formatted only in the app-based version of the chats.
The developers have also introduced a filmstrip which will allow you to select one of the existing images from the camera roll and send it to your friend. Before sending it, you have the option to edit the image, rotate or easily crop it. It’s a small step and we’re pretty sure that in short time, more options will be added to the photo editor for WhatsApp.
Lastly, another feature that is worth mentioning is document sharing from Google Drive and this can be done by going to Share > Share Document > More > Google Drive.
