Google has released this web mapping service back in February 2005, but the mobile version arrived three years later for Android and at the end of 2012 was launched the iOS version, as an alternative to Apple Maps. The application is continuously improved and the Android version just received a new update, which brought a dedicated tab for calling a cab via Uber, Ola Cabs, MyTaxi and other ride services. Also, you will have the possibility to compare their prices and pickup times.

Google Maps 9.22.2 has 49.95 MB in size and can be downloaded from the Google Play store. With Google Maps, you have access to maps for 220 countries, 15,000 cities and towns and get voice-guided turn-by-turn GPS navigation in order to reach a desired location, no matter if you’re walking, driving or riding a bike. But if you’re traveling by car, this application will offer live traffic conditions and reports about accidents or alerts if there are constructions in your route, so that you can go the other way.

In the Labs section, you’ll find Download Map Area feature which does exactly what its name suggests: it allows you to download an area of 10 square miles (26 km2) around the point you’ll select. However, you will still need to be connected to the internet, in order to “see satellite view and 3D buildings, search for Places and get directions.” This feature will get you out of trouble when you’ll travel to a foreign country and don’t want to get lost or pay a lot of money when downloading international roaming data.

With Google Maps, you can also search for the closest restaurant, gas station or other relevant spots in your way. Moreover, thanks to a recent update, areas of interest on the map, such as your home, work place, local gym, cinema etc., will be easily identified by using stickers. You will be able to choose between 24 variants of stickers, including castles, treehouses, igloos etc.
