Microsoft has kept many Windows Phone owners waiting for too long, but the company has finally started releasing updates to a series of Lumia models. Windows 10 Mobile came preinstalled on Lumia 950, 950 XL, 550 and 650 and now, older Lumias are getting this update.
Windows 10 Mobile OS is Microsoft’s latest software technology that will reach many Windows Phone 8.1 devices, but the users have been waiting for it ever since December 2015, when the company has promised to releases for a number of Lumia smartphones. After many delays, the miracle finally happened in mid-March and Windows 10 Mobile rolled out to many Nokia devices and other third party smartphones.
According to Microsoft, “This list includes a limited set of Windows Phone 8.1 devices and does not include some devices that are currently running Windows 10 Mobile in the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program. As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience.
Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience.” So, the approved phones to get Windows 10 are: Lumia 1520; 930; 640; 640XL; 730; 735l 830; 532; 535; 540; 635 1GB; 636 1GB; 638 1GB; 430; 435; BLU Win HD w510u; BLU Win HD LTE x150q and the MCJ Madosma Q501.
Microsoft was planning to upgrade the Lumia 520, 1020 and 1320 as well, but they have been ignored although the last two ones are meeting the hardware requirement, meaning that they support more than 512MB of RAM.
It was rumored that the One M8 variant that came preinstalled with Windows Phone 8.1 will get the latest Windows mobile operating system, but HTC told a Twitter user named Crowevil666 that “Microsoft decided not to include HTC One M8 to receive the Windows 10 update.”
