Today we’re going to compare two mid-tier Microsoft smartphones with low-end specs: the Lumia 550, which came in December 2015, and the larger Lumia 650, which was brought in February 2016. Both of these cheap devices run on Windows 10 Mobile out of the box.
The Lumia 550 measures 136.1×67.8×9.9mm and weights 141.9 grams. Its back is made of matte plastic and the phone feels solid in the hand, but it’s comfortable to hold because it has rounded edges. On the other hand, the new Lumia 650 is thicker and lighter as it measures 142×70.9×6.9mm and weights 122 grams, and while its back is also made of plastic and available in the same black or white colors, it has an anodized metal frame design.
The Lumia 550 has a display of 4.7-inch that supports a resolution of 1280×720 pixels at 315 ppi. The Lumia 650 comes with a bigger display of 5-inch with the same resolution, but which decreases the pixel density to 297 ppi, but its surface is protected against scratches with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Processors, Graphics Cards & RAM
The Lumia 550 features a Qualcomm MSM8909 Snapdragon 210 chipset, a quad-core Cortex A7 CPU clocked at 1.1GHz, an Adreno 304 graphics card and 1GB of RAM. The Lumia 650 comes with a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 chipset, which houses a quad-core Cortex A7 CPU with a higher clock speed of 1.3GHz, an Adreno 304 GPU and 1GB of RAM.
The Lumia 550 has been released with an internal storage of 8GB, while the Lumia 650 has one of 16GB, but both devices provide a card slot for expansion up to 200GB.
The Lumia 550 sports a primary camera of 5MP that features LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus and a secondary camera of 2MP. The Lumia 650 comes with a primary camera of 8MP that offers LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus and a secondary camera of 5MP.
Both devices come with removable batteries and their capacities are: 2100 mAh (Lumia 550) and 2000 mAh (Lumia 650).
