When the release date for Final Fantasy XV was seemingly leaked ahead of last night’s Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event, it was a disappointing turn of events… but Square Enix had more than enough Final Fantasy XV surprise announcements to make it worth watching nevertheless.

Final Fantasy XV will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30, as rumored. However, two special features will be released ahead of it.

First, Final Fantasy XV is receiving a tie-in anime following Noctis and his companions, called Brotherhood.

All five episodes of Brotherhood will be available online for free, and the first one is already out. We don’t know the release schedule for the remaining episodes yet, but they should all be released before the game.

But an anime tie-in isn’t the only thing we have to be excited about. Final Fantasy XV is also receiving a full-length CGI movie called Kingsglaive, also due out before September 30.

Kingsglaive stars Lena Headey as Princess Luna, Sean Bean as King Regis, and Aaron Paul as Nyx. It will be directed by Takeshi Nozue, who directed Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Although the movie will not appear in theaters, it will be available to download or stream online.

An anime series and a movie show how committed Square Enix is to Final Fantasy XV, and how much confidence they have in it. It will also give fans a taste of the story before the game comes out, and give an idea of what we should expect from Final Fantasy XV’s storytelling.

As if all this wasn’t enough, Final Fantasy XV’s mini-game Justice Monsters Five is also getting a standalone mobile release later this year.

Justice Monsters Five will be available for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices, as well as appearing within the game.

Final Fantasy XV won’t be out until September 30, but we have three different tie-ins to look forward along the way: Brotherhood, Kingsglaive, and Justice Monsters Five.

Do you plan to watch the anime and movie? Are you going to try the mobile mini-game? Which Final Fantasy XV announcement are you the most excited about?
