Apple is expected to release its iPad Air Pro 9.7 tablet very soon, after it unveiled it on March 21 and today we’re going to compare it with the iPad Air 2 tablet that has been launched in October 2014.
Believe it or not, both handsets measure 240×169.5×6.1mm and have identical weights: 437 grams (Wi-Fi variant) and 444 grams (LTE variant). This means that they share the same design, making it impossible to differentiate them.
Their displays are also identical, being LED-backlit IPS LCD screens with a diagonal of 9.7-inch and a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels at 264 ppi. Also, they’re protected by a scratch-resistant glass, but we recommend you to be careful not to put your tablet with its face down on a rough surface.
Processors, Graphics Cards & RAM
Likewise the 12.9 version, the iPad Pro 9.7 features a newer A9X chipset, with a dual-core Twister CPU clocked at 2.16, a PowerVR Series 7 graphics card and 2GB of RAM. On the other hand, the iPad Air 2 has an A8X chipset, powered by a triple-core Typhoon CPU clocked at 1.5GHz, which is backed by a PowerVR GXA6850 graphics card and 2GB of RAM.
The iPad Pro 9.7 will be released in three internal storage variants of 32GB, 128GB and 256GB, while the iPad Air 2 comes in three internal storage variants of 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. None of the devices provides a card slot for storage expansion, so you should think twice about how much space you need for your device.
The iPad Pro 9.7 sports a more advanced primary camera of 12MP that features dual-LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama and a secondary camera of 5MP. The iPad Air 2 has a weaker primary camera of 8MP that offers autofocus, geo-tagging, HDR, panorama, touch focus, face detection and a secondary camera of only 1.2MP.
The iPad Pro 9.7 is expected to be powered by a battery that will be able to hold the device alive for 10 hours during normal utilization. On the other hand, the iPad Air 2 comes with a non-removable battery of 7340 mAh.
