Both the Sony Xperia Z3 and Samsung Galaxy S5 devices have been released in 2014, but while Samsung has brought its flagship in April, Sony had to wait until September to launch its smartphone. Even if these devices are quite old, they come with decent specifications and their prices were reduced drastically, which means that you’ll be in advantage, if you’re not interested in spending a lot of money on a newly released smartphone.

The Xperia Z3 measures 146x72x7.3mm and weights 152 grams, it has a glass back and a metal frame with four nylon corners that protect the phone against shocks, while the interior is protected against dust and water. On the other hand, the Galaxy S5 is thicker and slightly heavier as it measures 142×72.5×8.1mm and weights 145 grams, but it benefits from the same dust and water resistance. However, its design is uglier and Samsung lost its users’ appreciation because of the plastic shell with perforated dots that made the S5 look like a cheap mid-range device.

The Xperia Z3 has an IPS LCD display of 5.2-inch that supports a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels at 424 ppi and it’s protected by a scratch-resistant glass. The Galaxy S5 comes with a Super AMOLED display of 5.1-inch that supports the same resolution, but it gives a higher pixel density of 432 ppi and it’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Processors, Graphics Cards & RAM

Both devices are equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset which is powered by a quad-core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.5GHz and an Adreno 330 graphics card. However, when it comes to RAM, the Xperia Z3 comes with 3GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S5 has only 2GB of RAM, so it’s not as fast as its opponent when it comes to gaming and multitasking.

Both devices come in two internal storage variants of 16GB and 32GB, but you can expand their capacity up to 128GB using a microSD card.

The Xperia Z3 sports a primary camera of 20.7MP (located on the rear side of the handset) that features autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, HDR, panorama, face detection and a secondary camera of 2.2MP (found on the front side of the device). The Galaxy S5 comes with a primary camera of 16MP that offers LED flash, geo-tagging, panorama, HDR, face detection and the secondary camera is only 2MP.

The Xperia Z3 comes with a non-removable battery of 3100 mAh, which is slightly more powerful than the 2800mAh removable battery of the Galaxy S5.
