Many famous mobile phone manufacturers attended this year’s MWC event that took place in Barcelona and they’ve presented their latest flagships that will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 processor, which features aptX HD, allowing compatible wireless headphones to play 24-bit music. The good thing about the latest Snapdragon 820 processor is that it runs cooler than its predecessor and the Kryo cores are two times more efficient than Snapdragon 810’s processor, while the Hexagon 680 DSP has significantly improved the battery life. So, here’s the list of flagships that will come equipped with the Snapdragon 820 SoC.
The first thing you’ll notice about the new model is the design change: the physical buttons (volume and power) are no longer placed below the rear camera, but on the sides. Also, the G5 has a modular design which allows the users to attach “Friends” – accessories that are improving the functionality of the device, such as a B&O DAC for enhanced audio, or a separate shutter button for both video and photos etc.
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge
Being disappointed by the heating issues of the Snapdragon 810 processor, Samsung has preferred to focus on its own processors and the Galaxy S6 was the first flagship from the Galaxy range that ran on an Exynos 7420 octa core, which proved to be faster than the Snapdragon 810. For some reason, Samsung has decided to give Qualcomm another try and will ship the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge in two variants: one with the latest Snapdragon 820 and the other one with an Exynos 8890 Octa core, but both models will support 4GB of RAM. It’s worth mentioning that Samsung has brought back the waterproof feature.
Sony Xperia X Performance
Sony has launched a new line of smartphones, forgetting about the Z series. The Xperia X performance is one of the three new phones, being the premium variant with a luxurious look and more advanced specs. The phone is dust and water resistant and has a 5-inch screen with a Full HD resolution, but its battery is quite small at 2700mAh. Also, the Snapdragon 820 processor is backed by only 3GB of RAM.
Xiaomi Mi5 Pro
This device comes with a 5.15-inch display with a QHD resolution, it’s powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor that is backed by 4GB of RAM, it supports up to 128GB of internal storage and its battery has a capacity of 3000mAh, while the main camera has a resolution of 16MP. It will be available in China and its price will be $350.
