Alcatel is not a new name in the smartphone industry.

In fact, the OEM has a reputation of coming in with affordable smartphones that are more than capable when compared to the expectations of phones in the same pricing regions.

The new Alcatel Go Play is a very durable device that comes in with dustproof as well as water and shock resistant capabilities and just costs a mere $200. This is good news for those of you who want to have a robust smartphone that can through hell, but still offer you the best services yet at a pocket-friendly price.

Alcatel Go Play is designed in plastic and comes with a spotty pattern on its soft-textured rear panel that gives it a funky look. You will feel even better when pressing the power and volume buttons on the phone’s edge. The left edge also play home to the flap that covers the microSD and SIM card slots. To install the cards, you will have to press the pin into the hole in order to eject the trays.

The phone comes together with a SIM ejector pin and a matte black-finished wall adapter embossed with an Alcatel logo. As usual, you will also get a pair of earbuds and a USB cable alongside several user guides.

Alcatel Go Play has a screen size of 5 inches and a resolution of 720p. Under the hood, the phone packs a Snapdragon 400 series CPU that manages a speed of 1.2GHz and a decent RAM of 2GB. The onboard storage stands at 16GB, but it can be expanded using a microSD card of up to 32GB. On the rear you’ll come across an 8MP snapper that can capture 1080p videos whereas the front has a 5MP snapper that is more than capable for handling video calling and top-notch selfies.

The Go Play has a capable battery unit of 2500mAh and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Alcatel Go Play has a rating of IP67

Samsung unveiled Galaxy S7 series with an IP68 rating. This is considered to be the best water and dust resistance rating so far, with the company’s 2014 flagship – Galaxy S5 – featuring IP67. Even though a little older, it is not common for a $200-priced phone to come in with a rating of IP67.

To make it better, Alcatel Go Play adds rubber flaps to the headphone jack as well as bottom edges in order to protect the phone against impact.

Users in the U.S. have the option of ordering the Go Play and get a free durable case on top of it. With this case, you’ll only be making the phone much more impact resistant.
