The iOS version of Viber has received a big update, which brought new features and many improvements, especially for chats, besides stability improvements. You can download the Viber 5.8.1 update from iTunes, and if you have a limited data plan, then you should connect to a wireless network, because the installation file weighs 72.9 MB.
The new update has a new conversation gallery where you will see all the photos and videos that have been shared in a chat. In order to get there, you will tap the gear icon in a chat, then choose “Media”. All photos and videos will be sorted by month. Also, in group chats has been added more detailed information, so you will know who has read and liked any message.
The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus devices support 3D Touch, a technology based on the pressure of the touch, and the latest update brought support for this type of technology. So, if until now, when you tapped the app’s icon on the home screen, a shortcut appeared for creating a new message. Now, with the help of 3D Touch shortcuts, you will access the three most recent chats, but you won’t be able to use the Peek and Pop gestures.
Another addition in Viber 5.8.1 is support for multitasking on iPads. Slide Over can be used on iPad Pro, Air, Air 2, or mini 2 or later, and the users will be able to Viber over another app, while Split View (Viber will be used side by side with another app) is supported on iPad Pro, Air 2, or mini 4.
Viber can be installed on any iDevice that runs on iOS 7.0 or later. The application is free, but you can make in-app purchases such as sticker packs and pay for call credits, in order to be able to make voice calls to landline and mobile numbers. If you want to play games, you’ll have the integrated Viber Backgammon, Viber Wonderball and Viber Rude Rider.
