Sony Xperia Z devices’ production has been officially discontinued. This move will see no more new releases of Sony Xperia Z devices.
Sony Mobile has resorted to replace the once-high end series of smartphones with the newly unveiled Xperia X. Xperia Z devices have reportedly been out for some time. 2015 saw the devices in the Z lineup failing to meet the manufacturer’s expectations. The devices were popularly known for their impressive design and camera specs. Despite Sony’s efforts in trying to fix the issues leveled against the Z series of smartphones, the devices still failed to meet the company’s expectations.
Changing with the dynamic mobile phone industry
Since the 2013 debut of the first Xperia Z device- Sony Xperia Z1-, the Japanese tech giant has released over 10 phones under the label. The latest models include the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium. The news might come to the disappointment of many who adored the Z series of phones and those who expected new models under the label.
The mobile phone industry has been characterized with the rise and changing of tact among various OEMs. For instance, Apple aside, leading phone manufactures such as Samsung and LG have notably changed their approach in their phone production in relation to customers desires. This has really propelled these manufacturers as their products are topping the list.
Huawei Company is also a reckoning force in the market with its recent releases making headlines here and there in the market. Speaking of HTC and Sony, the two companies have been lately noticed to be losing the grip on the market. The announcement to scrap off the Z series is no surprise given the minimum output displayed by the range of smartphones.
From the 2016 MWC, it was quite clear how OEMs are changing tact by going with customers’ needs and embracing relevant latest technologies. LG and Samsung’s releases at the Barcelona event clearly depicted the direction where the industry is heading to. Going the Xperia X direction is probably the best Sony has done so far.
Xperia X taking over
According to a blog post by the Sony Mobile Internal PR team, the Japanese tech giant has opted to end the Xperia Z series and replaces it with the Xperia X. In the post, the company hails the newly unveiled series as one that embraces “adaptive user experiences in terms of battery performance, camera and both hardware and software design”.
This definitely implies that the company is done with the once hailed Xperia Z and Xperia X is taking over. Xperia X was recently unveiled at the 2016 MWC along with three devices under its label in a row. The unleashed Xperia X smartphones are the Xperia X, Xperia XA and the Xperia X Performance.
The devices come with revamped design and specs modifications compared to the previous range. The X Performance packs a Snapdragon 820 chipset and a RAM of 3GB. Perfect camera, design and more are adopted in these new models.
The Xperia X is expected to make a turn-a-round for the Sony Mobile.
