The former was rumored to be the name of the next budget phone Apple releases, but it seems that Cupertino will go for the latter.

Regarding the same news, Apple will not be holding an event on March 15 as many had earlier believed before, instead, this event will take place a week later on March 21. This report has been brought forward by KGI Securities, adding that the new 4-inch iPhone SE will be very similar to the iPhone 5S in terms of design, featuring slightly curved edges. However, on the inside, there will be more powerful features that include the latest A9 chipset, just like what the iPhone 6S is equipped with. The pint-sized iPhone is also expected to come in with some of the latest features of iPhones, among them Live Photos and Cupertino’s mobile payment system, Apple Pay.

iPhone SE’s price to range from $400 to $500

In addition to the latest features, KGI also claims that the new iPhone SE will also come with the same camera installed on last year’s flagship – a 12MP snapper on the rear. On matter pricing, the phone will be priced from between $400 and $500, which will be a major discount when compared to what the current flagships cost, for instance, iPhone 6 currently costs about $549 for the base model.

Apple recently announced that it will be discontinuing the sale of older iPhone 4S and iPhone 5C in India. Now that the new iPhone SE is just weeks away, KGI also adds that the price of the iPhone 5S will be cut by up to 50%. At the moment, this device sales for about $450, which means it will now cost somewhere around $250. What this means is that emerging markets will now have a chance to access Apple’s smartphones, devices that have been hard for them to own due to their pricey nature.

More iPhone sales for Apple

What can drive more iPhone sales than having a new iPhone SE that costs about $450 and another older, but still capable iPhone 5S valued at $250? Well, this might just be the year Apple gets ahead of Samsung as far as global smartphone sales are concerned, but it still too early to conclude this.

During the same launch event, Apple will also release a smaller 9.7-inch version of last year’s iPad Pro. The device will be compatible with Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil accessories. For Apple Watch owners, there is also a refresh of the Apple Watch bands expected, but some reports point this towards spring this year.
