According to reports, Microsoft and Xiaomi are currently working on a custom Windows 10 Mobile ROM for the recently launched Mi 5 handset. At the same time, the American multinational technology company headquartered in Redmond is also working with OnePlus for a Windows 10 Mobile OS version for their devices too.
As expected, the Xiaomi Mi 5 device comes with top-end specifications, but at a decent price. The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is now found on most of the flagships. Aside from this, the Xiaomi Mi 5 also comes in three internal storage variants of 32GB and 64GB, which are coupled with 3GB of RAM and the third variant has128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.
The device has a display size of 5.15-inch that supports a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels at 428 ppi. When it comes to the cameras, you should know that the device features a primary snapper of 16MP that’s located on the rear side and a secondary one of 4MP that’s found on the front side. The Xiaomi Mi 5 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 on top of it.
However, as we’ve told you at the beginning of the article, the Xiaomi and Microsoft are currently working on launching a Mi 5 device that will have Windows 10 Mobile OS preinstalled on it. We’re not sure if the Xiaomi will come up with the device running on Windows OS or the company will collaborate with Microsoft in order to launch a custom Windows 10 Mobile ROM, as they’ve done with the Mi 4.
There are also rumors which say that the OnePlus 2 (and the upcoming OnePlus 3) will run on a custom Windows 10 Mobile ROM, but this has not been confirmed yet by either OnePlus or Microsoft. The Chinese manufacturer will release its OnePlus 3 handset in June 2016, but they didn’t want to reveal any other details about this upcoming device.
