The blurring tool have been added to YouTube back in 2012, but now, Google has expanded this feature, as it allows the users to blur out only specific faces or objects that are moving in videos. The custom blurring tool will make many YouTubers very happy, because if they don’t know how to work with video editing programs and they still want to upload their videos on this site, they will find very useful this feature.
The custom blurring option can be accessed by clicking on the Blurring effects tab, then on Custom blurring and finally, on Edit. While the video is running, you will just click and drag a box over the part of the video that you want to censor, and that object will be automatically blurred as it will move through the footage.
If you don’t want the blurred area to move at all, then you will click on the “Lock” option in the timeline. In order to blur more areas in the same video, this can be done by clicking and dragging new boxes over those parts that will be concealed.
The blurred box that will be created can be moved to another area in the video by simply dragging it to that place, or it can be resized by clicking any of its corners. This blurring tool offers many other possibilities, such as setting when the blurring begins and ends, by clicking and dragging the ends of the timeline.
Also, if you don’t want the face of some person to appear in your video, you can add blur also by clicking the Blurring effects tab, then selecting Blur faces, and Apply. With this new option, you can hide everything that you want: from license plates, to names of the places that are caught on camera and are shown in the background. Amanda Conway, YouTube’s Privacy Lead, stated that “While the use cases for this tool are vast, we built this feature with visual anonymity in mind” and “We wanted to give you a simple way to blur things like people, contact information or financial data without having to remove and re-upload your content.”
