Vevo is one of the best streaming services for music videos, having even a channel on YouTube. Since its launch in 2009, Vevo has become available for a variety of platforms, such as Roku, Boxee, Fire OS, Windows 8, iOS, Windows Phone, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Now, it’s available as an application for Android and tvOS as well, being supported on Apple TV streaming-media boxes.
Vevo for Android can be downloaded from the Google Play store, where the application was added on February 11. The users from the US, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland Spain and United Kingdom who will install this application will enjoy a personalized music video experience, as they will be able to listen to their favorite artists who have released official music videos, they will be notified when these artists release new videos, or have a new collaboration or a live performance (in the Favorites section). Also, the music videos offered by Vevo are categorized by genre: pop, rock, rap, electronic, R&B and country music and the users can favorite playlists or create personal playlists (My First Playlist) with the videos they like. The application has a Spotlight feed, and with the New for You feature, the users can find, every Monday, new videos based on their tastes. Also, Vevo will study the users’ preferences and will learn to give proper recommendations, so they can add new videos to their playlists.
On Apple TV there are extra perks, where Spotlight autoplays so that the users don’t need the remote to press play. Also, playlists and favorites are syncing among devices and the remote can be used for searching for videos by genre/individual artist. The application for tvOS can be downloaded from the Apple TV App Store, the place where the iOS users can find it as well.
Vevo debuted on YouTube in 2009 and the channel had 14,000 videos at that time, from over 5000 artists. In the summer of 2013, Vevo has announced that Apple’s set-top box will receive 75,000 HD music videos, live concerts etc.
