Samsung Galaxy S7 has been on the lips of every tech pundit, with each one of them giving out their views of what they expect the South Korean tech giant to equip the gadget with.

While most of the information has been based on rumors and speculations, the latest reports bring out the first real look of the upcoming Galaxy S7 just less than two weeks before it is officially unveiled. Samsung has planned to hold what it calls a “special event” on February 21, a day before this year’s Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona.

The leaked image of Samsung’s next flagship shows that some of the most talked about features of the S7 are for sure going to materialize.

What to expect at MWC 2016

As mentioned above, Samsung will probably unveil the Galaxy S7 during the special event. Based on the render, the device will come with a look that pushes it closer to Samsung Galaxy Note 5 than it does to last year’s Samsung Galaxy S6.

The back of the phone is curved, which is what the Note 5 looks like on its rear. The unfortunate thing about the leaked image is that it only covers the rear of the phone, which leaves us with very limited details about the phone.

Nonetheless, the render shows that Samsung Galaxy S7 will do away with the protruding hump of the rear snapper, instead fitting this year’s flagship with a lens that sits flush with the phone’s entire rear. This is good news since the company has been unable to take care of this issue in previous versions despite installing some of the best lenses in their cameras.

As far as the design materials are concerned, expect minimal changes when compared to what last year’s models came in with. A metallic frame will enclose the phone, with the most part of the build material being glass. Although the render looks as if having a plastic-like finish, it is probably because Samsung wants to keep people guessing what its phone will actually look like.

As far as performance is concerned, there are reports that Samsung will go for a much more improved CPU. Word has it that the Exynos 8890 chipset that Samsung will use in European variants will come in with a 15% bump as far as performance is concerned. For U.S. dwellers, the next Samsung Galaxy S7 will feature a Snapdragon 820 processor with support for high-quality audio DAC, just like its Exynos counterpart.

Smartphone battery life is a common issue that every manufacturer is trying to curb. Samsung is rumored to be working on a larger battery unit for the S7. Latest reports further claim that the power unit will also be able to charge up to 80% complete in half an hour’s time. When it comes to photography, Samsung seems to be concurring with Apple that it is not about the number of megapixels.

The new Samsung Galaxy S7 will feature a 12MP BRITECELL rear snapper with an aperture of f/1.7.Samsung is also expected to equip the phone with waterproof and dust resistant capabilities.

Pricing and release date

As mentioned at the beginning, Samsung will be holding a special event earlier on before the MWC show kicks off. This is when we expect to get a first sight of the Galaxy S7. However, this will only be a preview version, so expect to have the phone in your local store about three weeks later.

When it comes to pricing, the Galaxy S7 will probably be priced at $740 whereas the Galaxy S7 Edge will come at a price of about $890.
