Just like last year’s iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, we will probably get to see the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September this year.

Months before this date comes around, rumors have surfaced that Apple is working on a new camera technology to include in its coming flagships. According to KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPhone 7 Plus will come with dual-camera technology as well as take advantage of the tech from LinX, which Cupertino acquired back in April 2015. Just as a heads up, Linx is a camera module maker that works on multi-lens systems.

When it comes to predicting the next moves Apple is making, you can leave that to Kuo. What would seem odd is the fact that Apple is choosing to use this technology on its Plus model, instead of its main flagship, the iPhone 7. In the past, ever since the release of iPhone 6, Apple has used the same camera module on both sets of phones released the same year; with the only difference being availability of OIS on the Plus models. It happened with iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and the same followed with iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. However, according to Kuo, this isn’t the case for the next iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

A change of style

If Apple indeed strays from its norms, it would be mean the larger iPhone 7 Plus boasts a better camera than its counterpart. Many people are obsessed with quality cameras on smartphones and if this is what it will take for Apple to improve the sales of the larger phablet, then it seems Cupertino is ready to take this one on.

With a dual-lens system, you will be sure of enjoying photos with better background defocus, which is basically one of the major reasons many people prefer low aperture lenses. Another thing, having two cameras at the back of your iPhone 7 would improve, is the performance in low lit conditions, HDR performance as well as color fidelity. Don’t be surprised if you see the dual-camera system let you choose between the two lenses depending on the optical zoom levels you want.

While there are reports that Apple’s next iPhone 7 will be even slimmer than the current version, there is huge doubt that a dual-lens camera would fit in this device. If this is what the 800 workers Apple had reportedly employed to work on the next-gen camera for its iPhones have been doing, it is evident that Apple is aware of how dependent people have become, on this device’s camera.
