Sony started rolled out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to its Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra devices, which should have been upgraded directly to 6.0 Marshmallow and now, two other handsets are benefiting from this treatment: Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra, which are receiving the firmware update via OTA.

The single SIM version of the Xperia M5 (E5603, E5653, E5606) will receive the build number 30.1.A.1.33, while the dual SIM variant (E5633, E5663, E5643) is getting the build number 30.1.B.1.33. The E5643 model is missing from this list and Sony hasn’t confirmed if it will get the Lollipop update.



When the users will see the Android 5.1 Lollipop download notification on the screens of their devices, they will tap on the Download button and press Restart and Install. After the device will reboot automatically and the installation will start, on the screen will appear the Installing System Update notice. Now, the upgrading will begin automatically and when the installation will complete, the device will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The users who haven’t received the notification yet, they can manually check the availability of the firmware by heading to Settings > About Phone >System Updates > Check For Update.

The Xperia M5 devices which will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop will have a better memory management, the volume mode control has been improved and the users will be able to take pictures using a Sony Smartwatch 3 which will be paired with the smartphone. This update includes also the January security update from Sony, which brings also performance improvements.

The Lollipop 5.1 update comes also with the built-in Device Protection, which will come in handy if the device will be stolen or lost, as it will lock it will be unlocked only if the person who tries to access it will sign in using a Google account and enter the owner’s credentials. There is also a HD voice calling feature and the users can join WiFi networks and pair their devices via Bluetooth, with other phones, having this option is Quick Settings.
