The OnePlus 2 was released in August with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, but the Chinese manufacturer hasn’t announced when this flagship will receive the latest Marshmallow firmware. The users who are impatient and don’t want to wait until the company will upgrade their devices are now able to install the custom CM13 ROM created by CyanogenMod and based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
In order to install this custom ROM on an OnePlus 2 smartphone, the owner will need to root his/her device, but this will void the warranty, so if in the future, the phone will have technical problems, the user will support the costs for the repair. If this won’t convince the users to not root their phones, before installing the custom ROM on their OnePlus 2 devices, they will firstly need to install the TWRP Recovery tool (fully touch-based custom recovery which was initially available for the Nexus devices) and to make a Nandroid backup of their important data and settings. This action is required because during the installation of the custom ROM, the data and cache will be wiped and everything will be lost.
The users will also need a computer and to install the proper USB driver for connecting the phone to the PC and transferring the ROM zip file to the freshly wiped device. The battery must be at least 80 percent charged, or else, the device will shut down in the middle of the installation and it will be bricked. The exact steps that must be taken in order to successfully install the latest custom Android ROM for the OnePlus 2, check out this video:
