The entry level Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 model has reportedly been launched in Dubai for a price of just $135.
The South Korean company has been trending on the web on the expected release of Samsung Galaxy S7 models, but very few have been taking note of what’s taking shape at the other end of the market spectrum. The 2016 edition’s speculations started taking shape towards the end of last year, and now that it is here, we can finally get a better view of it via the leaked images.
Samsung has gone for a 4.5 inch Super AMOLED screen for this pocket-friendly Galaxy J1, which manages a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. Inside the phone, you will come across an Exynos 3475 quad-core processor that is clocked at a speed of 1.3GHz and is supported by a RAM of 1GB. The phone is powered by the previous version of Android OS, version 5.
As far as storage is concerned, the low-end handset comes with onboard storage of 8GB, but as usual with these kinds of phones, you will come across an expansion slot for a microSD card. Being a low-end device, the photography specs you get on this device are less average. The rear snapper has a 5MP lens while the frontal snapper comes with a 2MP lens. However, you will still enjoy LED flash capabilities when using the rear snapper in low-lit areas.
Also, to the standard connectivity options that include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the 2016 edition Samsung Galaxy J1 comes equipped with support for 4G LTE. To keep the device running is a 2050 mAh battery unit that if well handled, can last up to a full day.
Apparently, the Galaxy J1 2016 edition is only available in Gold version; however, there is no word of whether Samsung will think of bringing more variants of the phone to other markets. Nonetheless, owners of this device will enjoy the premium feel the Gold variant offers despite the phone being on entry level.
As mentioned at the beginning, Samsung has priced the 2016 edition of this low-end smartphone at about AED 499 in the launch country. When converted, this amounts to $135, which is a decent pricing for this device. As of now, there is no word on when this phone will be availed to other markets.
