WhatsApp is a cool application that offers a variety of features: voice calling, sharing contacts and location, the ability to block contacts, hide the profile picture and status etc. But, a Reddit user called javiersantos has discovered some hidden features in the beta version 2.12.413 of WhatsApp, which he installed on his rooted Android smartphone.

According to javiersantos, the first hidden feature is a security indicator, which will inform you that the conversation benefits from end to end encryption. Most of the users didn’t know that WhatsApp has implemented this type of encryption in order to prevent information leaks. So, if you have a rooted Android smartphone and you’ve installed the WhatsApp 2.12.413 beta version, check out this feature by opening up a terminal with superuser access, by typing in the su command. Then, you’ll type in the following command: am start -n com.whatsapp/com.whatsapp.SettingsSecurity. You will hit enter and on your screen you’ll see a brief explanation of the application being encrypted and what is its role. The visual indicator will tell you that your conversation is encrypted and if you can’t see this option even if you’ve rooted your smartphone and installed the 2.12.413 beta version, then there is something wrong, it means that the feature is buggy and the developers still need to work on it.

The second feature will allow the WhatsApp users to share their account information on Facebook, since WhatsApp was fully integrated with the famous social networking website. Theoretically, this option can’t be reversed, but with a superuser privilege, you can take the plunge. All you need to do is type in: am start -n com.whatsapp/com.whatsapp.TosUpdateDetailsActivity.

As a bonus, the Reddit user arkydon has found out a document picker function, but he didn’t offer screenshots of what this option does. He just explained that the feature can be accessed by typing in: am start -n com.whatsapp/com.whatsapp.DocumentPickerActivity.

WhatsApp hasn’t given any official statement on these newly discovered features.
