Facebook Messenger has been around for quite some time now, but many people started noticing its presence in the IM world in 2014.

This is the time when Facebook, the owner of the messaging app, decided to make it a standalone app and at the same time separate it from the official Facebook app for mobile phones. What this meant was that for users to enjoy chatting, they had to download the Facebook Messenger app and install it on their devices.

The app recently revealed that it has hit the 800 million mark as far as monthly active users are concerned. This is a no-joke feat to achieve, especially considering the heavy criticism that the app received when it switched to being a standalone app. This achievement is, however, because of the huge efforts being put in by Facebook developers in a bid to make this app the only app that you need on your phone.

In addition to exchanging messages as well as making free voice and video calls, Messenger lets users send money, make payments from within the app, make travel and even hotel arrangements, call a Uber ride and many others. These abilities are making this app such a force to reckon not just in IM, but also in the world of e-commerce.

The app also offers some amazing ways of staying unique when chatting with friends. Users can make use of private chats or even form groups where they can meet and chat on common topics of interest. In a bid to make these chat experiences a lot more enjoyable, Messenger developers have added some exclusive capabilities and features to customize your chat experience. When dealing with custom chats, it is easy to stay on course and avoid stupid mistakes like sending the right message to the wrong person. On the other hand, you can simply make the changes to suit the taste of your friends.

Getting started

To kick off the customization process, launch the app and open a chat thread. Follow this by tapping on the “i” icon at the top of the window for Android users. If using iOS, simply tap on the name of the person you wish to customize the chat at the top of the open window.

When this is done, options of changing nicknames, colors or even emojis of the chat will show up. If you proceed and make any change, the effect will be felt by all members of the conversation. A change of colors will be felt by all colored elements of the conversation’s UI, among them the chat bubble of the person sending the message. Changing emojis will result in a changed quick thumbs-up at the lower bottom corner into something that you choose.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that all changes you make will be felt and seen by everyone and so will you just in case any of your friends makes similar changes. As a result, stay off embarrassing changes.
