Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is expected to roll out to a number of devices from Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Android One, Asus amongst other new brands embracing the operating system.
About Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Officially unveiled in October 2015, Marshmallow is the sixth version of Android mobile operating system. This version basically aims at improving the preceding Lollipop version. Marshmallow comes with a power management system consisting of “App Standby” and “Doze” schemes that regulate background activities when the device is not engaged. This OS also comes with support for fingerprint scanning tech and Type-C USB connection. There are also new architectures for data storage, permissions, content search, enhanced security as well as other improved features on Marshmallow.
Unpopular and Chinese smartphone brands in U.S. market
With a few exceptions, Chinese smartphones as well as other unpopular brands have failed to woo the American market that is dominated by Apple, Samsung, LG and HTC products. This is partly attributed to the influence that mobile phone carriers have on the smartphone sales, since most consumers acquire their phones through carriers.
There is also the idea of trust; most of these brands are new and unheard of in the market. Many buyers believe in using tried-and-tested products that have well established and popular brands. For instance Asus and Android One models are amazing and they are not Chinese, but still they have not succeeded as such in the U.S. market. In fact, Nvidia (United States’ own firm) models are unpopular.
Despite these forces that have held up Chinese and other unpopular phones from making it in the United States, there are a number of smartphones that are equally reliable and having better specs and features that enhance excellent performance. Some of these models are also in the official list of phones that are already or rather expected to run on Android Marshmallow as from this start of 2016.
According to recent stats, Huawei is ranked the third best smartphone maker in the world. This Chinese firm will upgrade a number of its devices to Marshmallow. The 2014 models that will be upgraded include Honor series such as 4C, 4X, and Honor 6; Huawei Mate 7 and Ascend G7. The 2015 models include Media Pad X2, Mate S, Ascend series that include G8, P8, P8 Max and Honor series like 6 Plus,7 and 7i.
Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime and Xiaomi Mi series that include Mi 4, Mi Note, Mi 4i, Mi Note 2 and Mi Note Pro are among the above mentioned Chinese brand of phones that will receive the Android 6.0 upgrade.
