Microsoft will start rolling out new Windows 10 builds for PC (Redstone) to the members of the Insider Program. The last time when Microsoft has released a build was a month ago, but currently, the build 11097 is being tested internally, according to a tweet from Gabe Aul, the Windows Insider head.
Windows 10 was announced at the end of September 2014, and Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President, Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, has presented the build 9841. Until July 2015, when the operating system was finally released for PCs, Microsoft continued to roll out Insider builds, and all the features that have been added gradually made their way to the final and stable version of Windows 10.
On November 12 2015, Microsoft has released the build 10586, which was the second stable build of Windows 10, also known as The November Update/Version 511/Threshold 2, and it contained many improvements to the user interface, bundled services and it introduced the Skype-based universal messaging app along with the Windows Store for Business and Windows Update for Business features. This update was distributed via Windows Update, but from November 21 to November 24 was temporarily pulled from public distribution.
Then, the build 11082 (the first unstable build of the Redstone branch – “rs1_release”) was launched on December 16 and now, the Insiders are getting ready to test out the build 11097 which, according to Aul, is “early in development”. Most likely, this build will bring improvements to Cortana, which will be expanded through the OS, and the Office 365 services will have a deeper integration with Cortana.
Also, the Action Center and the notifications hub will suffer changes, receiving more features such as “widget-like functionality”. Microsoft will try to improve the task flow across devices, by allowing Cortana to assist the users in their activities, which they will start on one device, and continue on another.
In this build will be added the extension support for Edge, as Microsoft already prepared its users for it in the build 11082.
This upcoming build will probably be released in June, while the second one will come in October.
