Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd has said that it will emerge as the world’s second-best manufacturer of smartphones in two years’ time.
According to GfK – Germany’s first and world’s fourth largest market research organization – Huawei is currently the third biggest smartphone maker in the world having a market share of 9.7 %. As of the third quarter of 2015, Apple Inc. Had a market share of 13 % making it the world’s second-biggest manufacturer of smartphones. Samsung is currently the leading global smartphone maker with a 23.5 % share in the market.
Speaking at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, revealed that the company witnessed a remarkable growth in sales in the year 2015 with a 44 % increment. Mr. Yu added that in the last twelve months the company has been shipping more than 108 million units. This growth is about the general smartphone market that is projected to have increased its growth by a mere 10.4 %.
The company also added that it is not going to lose the grip in the market and that it has bigger and better plans that target to increase their share in the market on a monthly and yearly basis. As such they are increasing their chances of getting positioned as the second best smartphone maker in the world.
“Every month, every year we are increasing our market share,’’ reiterated Richard Yu. “Maybe within two years, we have the chance to be number two.”
Brand Huawei awareness’ has grown
Sales of Huawei products alone cannot be used to quantify the firm’s success in the previous year, but the global awareness growth of the selling brand is also attributed. Huawei has a record claim of around 34,000 globally available retail outlets except in the United States. Apple, which Huawei is targeting to beat, has over 450 worldwide retail locations that reports say that it’s a rapid expansion over the recent years.
The provided number of locations can indeed justify the attempts being made by the Chinese manufacturer to be the second leading smartphone maker. The company has recorded a brand awareness growth of more than 70 % up from less than 3 % in 2011. According to firm’s Net Promoter Score (NPS), the loyalty of customers to Huawei brands has also increased to +47 currently up from -24 back in 2013.
Penetrating the U.S. market
At the ongoing CES, Huawei unveiled its latest flagship smartphone dubbed Mate 8. The Huawei Mate 8 has a 6” Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protected screen, metallic body, 16 MP rear and 8 MP front snappers as well as a 3-day life battery. This amazing Android Marshmallow-supported phone runs on Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset with two Quad-core Cortex CPUs clocked at 2.3 GHz and 1.8 GHz. With this phone unleashed – currently not in the US – the company aims to compete Samsung’s Galaxy Note and the iPhone 6S Plus.
The company has hopes that the phone will eventually debut in the U.S. market despite the legal matters that have locked Huawei out of the country. The company has however promised to continue pushing the brand Huawei to the United States.
Currently, Huawei has one of its products in the United States under Google’s ownership- the Nexus 6P. The Google Nexus 6P is manufactured by Huawei and has so far received a warm reception in the U.S. market. Still at the CES 2016, the company also unveiled a gold version of the Nexus 6P that also will increase the market awareness of Huawei’s products.
Another Huawei flagship, Honor is also expected to launch in the United States sometime in the year 2016. With such improvements and attempts to woo the larger U.S. market, the company might stand a good chance to outdo Apple and become the globally second best in the smartphone making an industry.
