Moto G 2015 has already started receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update and now it’s time for the Indian and Brazilian owners of a Moto X Play flagship to upgrade their devices. Also, this update will be seeded to the Nvidia Shield Android TV streaming 4K media player which has built-in Google Cast and supports voice search.
The users from India and Brazil started receiving the OTA update MPD24.65-18 which has a size of 590MB and soon, this update will be available for other Moto X Play phones around the globe. However, if you own this device, but you haven’t received the update yet, you can manually check for it by going to your device’s Settings > About Phone > System Update.
If you haven’t found out yet, Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes with many changes and new features, such as Google Now on Tap, Android Pay, the Silent feature and the Do Not Disturb mode, Doze – the battery saver, revamped app permissions, a new Chrome feature and new fingerprint APIs for developers.
In addition to the aforementioned features, Marshmallow will include some Moto-specific changes such as the removal of Moto Assist feature. Motorola explained that this feature was replaced with Do Not Disturb, which is placed under the Sound and notification settings and it has a similar function.
The Moto X Play isn’t the first Motorola device that runs on Marshmallow. The Moto X 2014 received it back in December and in short time, more phones will be upgraded to the latest Android OS version.
Another device, but this time a streaming 4K media player, will benefit from the new features of Marshmallow. It’s not sure when the update will roll out, but according to a video released by Nvidia, the new OS will bring more customization for the home screen, the users will control better the internal storage and the hands-free feature will simplify things. Also, by saying “OK Google, set up my device”, the users will easily go through the first time setup process which involves adding the Google account to the Shield.
