The Xperia Z5 family of smartphones included three awesome devices with a fingerprint scanner and an improved camera, each one featuring a different screen size. The phablet was the premium version with a 4K resolution. Sony will continue to make a new line of smartphones and the company already offered some details about them on AnTuTu’s Weibo page.
So, in 2016, Sony will release a Xperia Z6 flagship which will have a screen with a diagonal of 5.6-inch, which will be smaller than the Xperia Z6 Plus, sized at 5.8-inch, and the Xperia Z6 Ultra, with a giant screen of 6.4-inch. The Xperia Z6 Compact will measure 4.6-inch and the Xperia Z6 Mini will be the smallest model form the family, featuring a screen that will be sized at 4-inch.
While the Mini version will come with a Snapdragon 620 processor, the rest of smartphones will feature the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, and the Xperia Z6 and Xperia Z6 Plus will have in common a pressure sensitive touch display. Yes, Sony follows in the steps of Apple, who launched this technology on the iPhone 6s/6S Plus.
Sony hasn’t given an exact release date, but the rumors say that the Xperia Z6 family will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event, which will take place in Barcelona, from 22 to25 February 2016. Unfortunately, there is no information related to the camera hardware, but we highly doubt that the resolution will be higher than 23MP. Sony will prefer to improve the software, so that the colors will be more accurately reproduced and the images will look brighter when the photos will be taken in low light conditions.
A few days ago, a report from a Chinese news source cnbeta said that Sony will use the Snapdragon 820 processor on only two of its flagships, and that in total will be only four devices, without mentioning anything about their specs. Moreover, it is rumored that the Snapdragon 820-based smartphones will be launched in October.
