Almost three months ago, Xiaomi was releasing a new flagship and the plan was to come with a “Pro” version of it, but instead, the company renamed it Redmi Note 3, which means that it’s the direct successor of the Redmi Note 2. So, what did the new model bring and why you should buy it?

Designs and Displays

The Redmi Note 2 is a pablet with a simple look, featuring a plastic back, slightly curved on the edges and with rounded corners, and Xiaomi has chosen only bright colors to provide the users a good mood. So, the five variants of colors for the back panel are white, blue, yellow, pink and mint green, while on the front panel, under the 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen which supports 1080x1920pixels at 403ppi are found three capacitive keys with a red accent. The device weights 160 grams and its dimensions are 152x76x8.3mm.

The Redmi Note 3 looks like a real premium device, not only because of its full metal body, but also because it has a fingerprint scanner which allows biometric authentication for mobile payments. This model has only three variants of colors: Silver, Gray and Gold and the capacitive keys are now grey. Also, the body has suffered small changes in terms of dimensions, measuring now 150x76x8.7mm, which means that the phone is shorter and thicker, but it’s also 4 grams heavier. Xiaomi has used the same screen from the previous model, so there are no differences in terms of image quality.

It seems that the Redmi Note 3 inherited the hardware specs of the previous model, so they’re equally fast with a Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 octa core processor clocked at 2GHz, which is backed by a PowerVR G6200 GPU and 2GB of RAM, featuring an internal memory of 16GB which is expandable only on the previous Redmi Note 2, and the microSD card has a capacity of 32GB, not more. However, the Redmi Note 3 has a small advantage: its other variant has 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM, and it also runs on a newer Android version, 5.1 (Lollipop).

Cameras and Batteries

Xiaomi used the same camera technology on both devices, so the primary camera is S amsung/OV with phase detection autofocus and 0.1s focus speed, dual LED flash and Full HD capture, while the front camera is 5MP OmniVision with an aperture of f/2.2 and a 5-element lens.

The 3060mAh battery was upgraded to 4000mAh, so it should last an entire day.
