The change has been coming and in case you hadn’t noticed it, the dream of having a one-cable future looks a lot real now than never before.

The world has dawned to a new type of technology that powers today’s USB ports and it’s known as USB Type-C. There is no doubt that USB-C, the small reversible USB port that is available on the new Apple MacBook as well as Google’s Chromebook Pixel 2, is still fresh in your mind. Well, the intention of this discovery was mainly to replace the entirety of your connections, be it display, data, charging or any other connection.

There is even much better news as this USB-C technology has recently received a major boost in its hunt towards becoming the future of connections. The technology has been upgraded in the recent past, picking Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 transfer protocol along the way. Being a new update, you will only find these ports on a handful of devices, among them the recent (October) releases from Dell that include XPS 15, XPS 13 as well as XPS 12 computers.

Intel calls this transfer protocol port nirvana and according to the chip maker, this technology has the ability to transfer data with speeds of up to 40Gbps (gigabits per second). A fruitful mission

The mission of having a one-cable future started back in 2011, when the first USB Type-C was integrated with Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 followed later. All of these updates appeared in both of Apple’s MacBook as well as Mac PCs.
