WhatsApp has a reported 900+ million users from all over the world and another one million+ also sign up for the app on a daily basis.
The new members who come in want to be as good as the old ones when it comes to using the app. But there are old users who know very basic things or services of WhatsApp. If you fall in any of these categories or maybe you just don’t have the time on your hands to explore through the whole features and options available in order to get the best out of the app, we have lined up for you a list of the top tips and tricks you can use to enhance WhatsApp experience in general.
Changing profile picture
How you present yourself in front of your friends will say a lot about you. As a result, it is important that you change your profile picture to the one that suits your desired look. To do this, open the app and tap on the menu option and then select “Profile”. Go ahead and tap on the pencil icon to open the profile photo editing box where you can choose from uploading a picture from your gallery or taking a fresh one.
Just in case your photo is saved on your PC and you’d love to use it as your profile picture on WhatsApp, you will have to log in to WhatsApp Web. Once you are in the web client, click on the avatar located on your left hand side of the screen and upload the photo you wish from its location on your drive. There is also an option of capturing a fresh picture via webcam.
Mute group chats and notifications
It is possible to turn off notifications, both from individual and group chats. Just open the group chat and tap on the menu option. From there, select “Mute” and you will be presented with several options of time intervals to choose from. These are the periods you want the chat to remain muted. You can also decide to hide or show notifications from this same area.
Know those members who read group chats but don’t comment
In WhatsApp groups, you will always find some members who never comment or post anything, but they never leave the group either. Usually, these people will read through all comments posted in the group, but no one would notice them.
There is a trick of telling who has read messages in groups you are part of. Simply open the group chat and then tap and hold on the message you sent in the group. Follow this by tapping on the info button that pops up at the top of the screen and you will have details of everyone who has read the message and those who haven’t.
Change your phone number
WhatsApp uses phone numbers to create user accounts. While the app only allows the use of one number, it does not mean this number cannot be changed at some point. The good thing with changing your WhatsApp number is that it won’t change your conversations, groups, settings and every other detail; instead, they will be imported to your new number.
To do this launch the app and tap on the “Menu>Settings>Account>Change Number” options. Enter your current and new numbers in the boxes that show up and you are done.
Disable auto-download of media
WhatsApp allows the users to exchange photos, videos as well as audio notes. Even though none of these files exceeds 16MB when on its own, you might end the day with hundreds or even thousands of messages. Eventually, your storage device starts getting full and you might need to get rid of some of these media files or even all of them.
You can prevent this by choosing what to download and what not to. This can be done by going to the app’s Chat and calls Settings and then select “Media auto-download”. From there, you have the option of choosing the type of media to download, depending on the type of connection you are using.
