The Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the latest big software update for Android powered devices. During the IFA 2015 event that was held two months ago, Sony announced some of the devices that will soon receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update.
According to Sony, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be available soon for the following devices: Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C4 and Xperia Z4 Tablet.
Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t made an official announcement about when these devices will receive the latest Android OS OTA update. However, according to a tweet from Ricciolo1, a well known “leakster”, the Xperia Z5 models will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in January 2016.
The unlocked variants of the Xperia Z5 devices will most likely be the first ones that will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, it is good to know that depending on the carrier you are connected to and the country you live in, you will most likely get the OTA update sooner or later than others. For example, one carrier may release the OTA update in January, while another carrier might release it in February or even March.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes with many new features such as App Standby Mode and Doze which will improve the battery life of your device. At the same time, you will be able to grant or deny access to some features for some specific applications. With other words, when you will install an application, you will be able to choose which features the application can access and which can not.
Currently, only a limited number of Nexus and non-Nexus devices are running on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, in 2016 there will be more and more devices that will update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, as long as they are powerful enough to handle it.
