Next year, Samsung and Xiaomi will release their new flagships and the fans want to know more about the Mi5 and Galaxy S7. Luckily, the internet is full of rumors about their specs. So, we collected everything we’ve found until now and in this article, we’ll tell you what to expect from these upcoming devices.
According to GSMArena, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to come with an IPS LCD screen that will support a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels at 554 ppi and will Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 on top of it for protection against scratches. The Galaxy S7 will be available in two variants of screen sizes: the smaller one will measure 5.2-inch, while the larger one will have a curved screen with a diagonal of 5.7-inch. Both Galaxy S6 models will feature a Super AMOLED screen with a 4K resolution.
In 2015, Samsung preferred to use its proprietary chipset because the latest Qualcomm model came with some overheating issues which are affecting the battery life. Soon, the Snapdragon 810 will be replaced by the new 820 processor and the Galaxy S7 which will be released in China and the US will be powered by it, while the rest of the markets will get the device that will be powered by the 64-bit octa-core Exynos 8890 processor.
The Xiaomi Mi5 will come also with the next Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset which will be coupled with an Adreno 530 GPU, but it will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, not the latest 6.0 Marshmallow, and will have MIUI 6.0 on top of it. It is said that the Snapdragon 820 will be 35 percent faster and 30 percent more power efficient than its predecessor.
The Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to offer two variants of internal memories of 32GB and 64GB, which will be accompanied by 4GB of RAM. While there is no news regarding a potential microSD card slot for expansion, it is said that the battery will be charged via a Type-C USB 1.0 reversible connector port.
The Galaxy S7 will support either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and will come with a USB Type C connector for charging the battery. It’s not sure if the internal memory will support expansion, because in case the device will have the same glass and metal design, the chances are very low to see a slot on one of the sides.
The Galaxy S7 will most likely receive Sony’s IMX300 sensor which has been introduced on the Xperia Z5 line of smartphones and will support a resolution of 23MP and a 192-point hybrid autofocus system, with which you’ll be able to take pictures at a resolution of 5520 x 4120 pixels and record videos at 2160 pixels per 30 fps. The Xiaomi Mi5 will have an inferior 16MP main camera with OIS and dual-LED flash.
It seems that Samsung is planning to introduce a sensitivity technology similar to Apple’s 3D Touch, but which is called Clear Touch. Xiaomi will try to bring also a version of this technology, because the rumors say that the company already filled a patent for that. In addition, the Mi5 might have a revolutionary fingerprint scanner called Sense ID.
