The Z5 Premium, the Z5 Compact and the Z5 are three of the latest flagship phones from Sony.

The Z5 is almost similar to the Z3+, with some features being retained and some changed.

Design and Display

The design is minimalistic, symmetrical and understated, appearing quite charming and simple. But it packs plenty of power. The dimensions of the phone are 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm and weighs 154 grams. As for the display, it is a 5.2 inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels in IPS, full HD, LCD screen. It feels powerful to hold with a boxy design. The screen is great for watching movies, but outdoor use is difficult.

Waterproof and Dustproof

The Z5 comes with IP68 waterproofing level and can be theoretically submerged in a meter of water for half an hour. It can survive an accidental spill or a call taken in the rain, but not much more.

The camera is one of the important features of Sony phones and the Z5 does not disappoint. The sensor is 23 MP and offers sharp pictures even at a zoom of 5x. The auto focus of 0.03 is the main attraction, making it very fast. The performance of the camera is excellent and thermal management has been improved.

Battery Specs

The Z5 can offer a battery life of two days with a single charge. The battery is powerful at 2900 mAh, with big selling points being the Stamina mode along with the intelligent screen. When the image is static, the screen goes into pause and switches of the CPU, thereby saving power. This is surely a winning feature, as the screen draws much of the power in a phone.

Fingerprint Scanning

The round button is gone and in its place there is a lozenge shaped button. A fingerprint scanner has been added and tapping it can turn the phone on from sleep to unlock it immediately. With the coming of Android Pay, the feature can offer users security in contactless payment from their phones.

Other Top Features

The PS4 Remote player is another feature on board the Z5 along with the Hi resolution audio. Though the features on these have not been upgraded, the latest headphones from the company offer better noise cancellation and decent sound even on regular MP3s.

The phone runs on the Android, 5.1 Lollipop version, which is overlaid with Sony’s customized UI. It does not have the latest Marshmallow 6.0 version as yet, though it will receive the update soon enough. The delay is due to the heavy customization of the Android UI. The skin is neat and easy to use, but it comes with several pre- loaded applications, though you can uninstall a few of them.

The Z5 is not an amazing phone but the camera is impressive. The design continues to remain the same boxy one of previous models, with very few upgrades from previous models. Users will enjoy the phone though there is nothing fresh about it except the camera. The design is premium and it should interest consumers. It looks great, offers a lot of power and great snaps.
