According to David Schuster, Senior Director, Software Product Management at Motorola Mobile Devices, the owners of the Moto X 2014 from Brazil and the owners of the Moto X Style (India and Brazil) can upgrade their devices to the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but they will receive the update in stages.
The latest update received by the Moto X 2014 is Android 5.1 (Lollipop), while the Moto X Style, which was launched in July, is shipped with version 5.1.1. The Indian market received the Moto X Style in October and now they’re starting to receive the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow version.
This isn’t a big surprise, because David Schuster, Senior Director, Software Product Management at Motorola, already wrote in a Google+ post that “Full deployment will proceed in stages over the next few weeks. It is not yet available for pull, you will receive a notification on your phone when you are able to update your phone”.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow brought some new features for the Moto X Style and according to the changelog, the devices will have a new Doze mode, which will extend the battery life by sending the device into sleep state when it’s not in use. The feature will shut down all the unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, in order to optimize power.
The App Standby feature will also help your battery to last longer, by reducing the drains caused by less used applications which are running in the background. The feature will send them to a reduced activity state.
Marshmallow comes also with a new Memory Manager which allows the users to check memory usage of all installed applications; Do not disturb button now is found in the quick settings panel; RAM manager; automatic app backup; improved volume controls; System UI Tuner and the Ambient Display has been replaced with Moto Display especially for the Motorola devices.
The expandable storage support will make the SD which is normally used for saving media files, an extension of the internal storage and the users can now store and run applications from them.
In addition, the owners of the Moto X Style devices will have better volume controls, as “Android Marshmallow provides a more clean and intuitive way to control the ringtone, media and alarm volume”.
