The J5 is a budget offering from the Korean giant and is the younger sibling of the J7.
The J5 comes with decent features and can face off with the rest of the competition in this segment, as it is offered at a reasonable price.
Display, Design and Dimensions
The screen technology is Super AMOLED, with a screen size of 5 inches and a HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a ppi of 294. Viewing angles are good and legibility in sunlight is decent.
The phone has dimensions of 142.1 x 71.8 x 7.9 mm and weighs 146 grams. The design is not very attractive and rather monotonous, but practical. The rear panel is removable so the battery can be replaced. There are 2 slots for SIM cards and another slot for a microSD card. It no longer comes in a shiny plastic finish, being replaced by a matte one that protects it from smudges and fingerprints. It is comfortable to hold and operate.
A quad core Snapdragon, 410 CPU powers it, clocking at a speed of 1.2 GHz and this is combined with a RAM of 2 GB. It has an internal storage of 8 GB, which is somewhat limited, but you can expand it to a maximum of 128 GB with the microSD card, so there are no memory problems.
As for connectivity, there are two slots for SIM cards supporting 4G LTE, along with traditional features, such as Wi, GPS and Bluetooth.
The J5 makes use of Android 5.1.1 version, Lollipop and this is layered with the TouchWiz user interface. TouchWiz is a lot more refined on the J5 and offers more fluidity in terms of the usability and the design features. The interface is responsive and TouchWiz seems to have improved to a great extent. The theme engine has also been improved.
This tool allows you to check out the statistics on the phone, for instance, the status of the battery, the storage, memory being used by applications and so on. You can also use it for closing apps that are in the background or delete a file or run an antivirus check.
The J5 offers good performance for a mid level phone, due to the Snapdragon 401 chip combined with a RAM of 2 GB. It is easy to multi task and run the apps on PlayStore, without any issues. Day to day usage performance is above average.
The rear camera has a resolution of 13 MP and an aperture of f/1.9; so it gets in a good amount of light and captures decent images. Even pictures in low light conditions are decent, with the LED flash on the rear camera being quite powerful. The front camera has a resolution of 5 MP and has LED flash. With a double press of the home button, you can open the camera application, so it is easy to capture something at short notice.
The J5 packs a battery of 2600 mAh and offers decent performance.
