Great news for the owners of a LG G3 flagship, which was released in 2014. The manufacturer is making the preparations to release the Android Marshmallow update for this device, and this information comes from Polish blog Tablety, which cited sources inside LG.
LG hasn’t given any details about its plans to upgrade this model, but the sources say that Android M will be delivered to the LG G3 around mid-December. The phone is currently running on Android v5.0.2 (Lollipop), but it came loaded with Android v4.4.2 (KitKat).
Regarding its specs, we’ll tell you that it features a faux metal body with a floating arc design and physical buttons placed below the rear camera, the screen is a True HD-IPS + LCD sized at 5.5-inch and its resolution is pretty high, 1440x2560pixels, being one of the first devices to be upgraded to a 2K resolution. Under the hood, the G3 received a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 quad core processor which runs at a clock speed of 2.5GHz and its performance is boosted by 2GB of RAM (16GB of storage) or 3GB of RAM (32GB of storage). LG equipped it with a microSD card slot, so if you want extra storage, you can get up to 128GB. On its front side, the device sports an average front camera of 2.1MP which records Full HD videos, while the primary camera supports 13MP and benefits from OIS, phase detection/laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, 1/3′ sensor size and 2160p video capture @30fps.
First, the G3 will receive the Android Marshmallow update in Poland, then the upgrade will be expanded to other regions, as LG will follow its G4’s update roll-out scheme.
Android Marshmallow has a few new features and one of them is Doze, which is a battery saver. When the user sends it device to sleep, the feature puts the active applications into a sleep state and the battery life will be expanded by up to 30 percent. This Android version brings also fingerprint sensor input, a faster Chrome browser, Now on Tap, Google photos, support for more international dialects etc.
