The customers are becoming very confused by HTC’s flood of “One” smartphones, because they look pretty much the same, meaning that they come with the usual curved metal body which has two thin stripes at the top and bottom. However, on some phones, the rear camera has a square lens, while others have a circular lens and they’re located above the line. It’s interesting that the latest HTC device – One M9s is the identical copy of the One M9 flagship, but it uses a different processor and main camera.
Designs and Displays
Both devices measure 144.6×69.7×9.6mm, but the One M9s is 1 gram heavier, weighting 158grams. On the front side, they feature dual front facing speakers with Dolby Audio smarts and BoomSound technology, but they lack a home button. While the One M9s comes in Dazzling Gold, the 8-month old One M9 is available in multiple variants of colors: Gunmetal Gray, Amber Gold, Silver/Rose gold, Gold/Pink and Pink. Their bodies are made of aluminum, have curved edges and rounded corners and their rear cameras have large square lenses and sit below the top line. For both of the models was used a Super LCD3 display with a diagonal of 5-inch, which supports a Full HD resolution at 441ppi.
The One M9s is the budget friendly version of the famous flagship, so it has a weaker 64bit processor, which is a Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 with eight cores clocked at 2.2GHz. They are paired with PowerVR G6200 graphics and 2GB of RAM, while the internal memory can be expanded from 16GB up to 200GB. The One M9 has the same maximum storage capacity for MicroSD expansion card, but its internal memory supports 32GB. As for the hardware configuration, HTC has used the famous Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor with four cores clocked at 1.5GHz and four cores clocked at 2GHz, which is not pleasing the users because of its overheating issues. Anyway, the device is very fast and the processor is backed by 3GB of RAM.
Cameras and Batteries
Both devices have a front camera of 4MP (Ultrapixel) which is capable of shooting Full HD videos at 30 fps with HDR, but the One M9 has back camera with a higher resolution of 20MP, which supports autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and 4K video recording, while the One M9s, with its 13MP primary camera, records Full HD videos and supports optical image stabilization.
The battery has the same capacity on both devices: 2840 mAh, and it’s not removable.
The mid-range One M9s costs $390, while the flagship costs $465 on Amazon.
