A vast improvement has been made in the family of Nexus phones with the arrival of the new LG Nexus 5X.
This device continues to be made by LG and the South Korean manufacturer has brought in a number of features seen in its own line-up of phones. HTC needed an urgent revamp of its smartphone line-up and it is provided by the new HTC One A9.
The design of the HTC One A9 may have a familiar feel before the presence of the iPhone 6S, but HTC remained firm that this design be evolved from the HTC One M8. The most distinct aspect of the device is the front, which looks much plainer due to the lack of the front firing speakers. It has been a huge advantage for the HTC phones in recent years, but it has been done away with in order to incorporate the fingerprint sensor. The LG Nexus 5X is similar in design to many other LG smartphones, but that is a good thing since LG phones have been some of the best looking in recent times.
Gone are the days of a VGA or 720p camera in the front of the device; this aspect is more aptly demonstrated with the HTC One A9 or the LG Nexus 5X. The former has a four megapixel front camera, whereas the latter comes with a five megapixel sensor. There is little to differentiate the two devices in this regard, but the Nexus has a distinct advantage in terms of the rear camera. It takes the best features from recently seen LG cameras; they include laser autofocus, dual LED flash, and an array of controls. Further, it can also shoot 4K videos at 30 frames per second. All this is done using the 12.3 megapixel rear camera.
The HTC One A9 has a 13 megapixel camera which is devoid of certain crucial elements like 4K video recording. However, one can make do without this feature since aspects like optical image stabilization and dual LED flash help to get the best shot often as possible. This phone also supports high resolution audio with Dolby surround sound support. The Nexus 5X is priced at around $370, which just undercuts the HTC One A9 launch price of around $400. This small difference in pricing is unlikely to make a difference like some of its features.
